This is a website I use to imform people of the Fishing opportunities in the State of Michigan.

The information includes Walleye Fishing, Steelhead Fishing, Salmon Fishing for Coho & Chinook ( Kings ), Brown Trout and Perch Fishing. On the waters of Lake Michigan, Saginaw Bay in Lake Huron, and on the Grand River near Grand Rapids,Michigan.

I am a liscensed Captain with the experience to Guide people towards having fun while fishing.

Saturday on the Grand River

Dad and I got down to the Grand about noon on Sat. The water level is lower than normal, which gives me an opportunity to search out some new spots. So, I ran some tots into a run that is usually too deep. Bingo! A nice fish wacked it.
After shopping for lures on some exposed snags and action with a couple other fish, it turned out to be a good day of fishing for Steelhead.
I decided it was time for a photo of mysef for a change.

Back in the Saddle Again

My freind Mike and I went down to the Grand River for a beer run, and came up with this nice Steelhead. The weather was real nice so there was a lot of fishermen. The fishing will be better and fish will be bigger as it gets closer and into December.

Well the weather cooperated but the Walleye were not. We did catch a few and loose some but we didn’t get the creel that I would expect for July.
We ended up doing the best in 12 FOW using Tots and keeping them above the weeds.
We caught Walleye, Bass, Cats, Sheephead and this Blue Huron that took a break on my bowrail.

I caught a lot of fish this last week on the Bay. Most everyone was using crawler harnesses. I was using Hot N Tots with good success. Fishing 15′ to 32′ the fish were in the top 10′ of the water table.

I got the boat wet on the Bay last weekend. After ironing out the bugs we also wet some lines. The fishing was very slow. I talked to the 12th place winner in a gallery of 124 from a tournament on Sat., and they only boated 4 fish. So, I guess I don’t feel so bad.

To say the least, the Saginaw Bay was a little volatile within a couple miles from shore. We hopped a couple of cracks within 4 miles of shore and then life was good again. We caught some walleye’s and at about 8:00 pm started to make the 7 mile trip back to land. The picture you are seeing is of one of us that took off down the trail and didn’t have his GPS dialed in for the return trip.
GPS is a wonderful thing for navigation, but too many people that own them don’t actually use them. If you are going to the Bay take some time to do some scouting for safe ice. I stopped and talked to people about bad Ice and it payed off. Be Careful!!!

The female Walleys seem to be showing up in good numbers. I had good luck with a silver Do Jigger with a red lightning stripe.
I fished in 19ft. of water about 6 1/2 miles out. I didn’t find anyone catching fish in shallower water.

The Bay 2-6-10

On Saturday I took a tour of the Saginaw Bay to check out the stories about the Ice. In Bay city I found thick,safe Ice from the mouth of the Saginaw River and out about 2 miles. Most people were staying inside of that space.
Northwest of there between Pinconning and Standish it was still pretty touchy. In this area I found some small pockets of open water (close to shore). The areas that had rolling white caps 2 weeks ago seem to have about 4 inches of ice.
I would not assume there is good Ice everywhere, but it seems to be rapidly improving. Be cautious and bring em back alive!

Here is a look at the Saginaw Bay from the Eye in the Sky on 1-30-10. My advise is to stay clear of it. My intension is to go give it a look on the Superbowl weekend.
